Home > Enjoy the festivities.... > The Diesel Exhibition - Celebrating 150 Years
Our main exhibition this year is to mark the 150th anniversary of the birth of Rudolf Diesel, the inventor of the diesel engine. It runs until the end of September.
Among the exhibits are two notable 'firsts':-
• the 1st appearance in the North West of the JCB Dieselmax444 engine, from the world's fastest diesel powered car. JCB also provided a 6' model of their record breaking car. The JCB Display is available until the end of July.
• the 1st diesel engine to be built in the UK, and it's also the 3rd ever built in the world.
