Bridgewater Canal

The Bridgewater Canal is known as England's first canal, originally commissioned by Francis Egerton, the 3rd Duke of Bridgewater, to transport coal to Manchester. 40 miles long and with no locks along the entire length, the canal connects Runcorn to Manchester forming part of the Cheshire Ring with a short arm connecting with the Trent and Mersey Canal at Preston Brook.

The Bridgewater Canal runs through Lymm, a picturesque village in the heart of Cheshire, boasting numerous restaurants and pubs, beautiful walks around the village.

Explore some of the rural towns and villages situated along the canal, visit attractions and find places to eat along your journey.
