About

Outstanding beauty, an abundance of wildlife and a rich history can all be found in this unique landscape.

Many years of hard work have created this vibrant wetland on the border of England and Wales. The reedbeds, wet grassland and fens now support an array of amazing wildlife, alongside farmland which is managed in a nature-friendly way. Admire the remarkable view of the wetlands from the comfort of our unique reception area, complete with wood-burning stove for the cold winter months.

A gentle stroll along the trails immerses you in the wetland that is home to breeding avocets, lapwings and other wading birds in summer, and an array of different ducks and geese in winter. Dazzling dragonflies burst into life in summer and dart around the path edges; if you’re lucky you might see a kingfisher too. The woodland is carpeted with bluebells in spring and the trails edged with other wonderful wildflowers throughout summer.

If you’re feeling energetic, venture up to Burton Point for a look at the Wirral’s only Iron Age hillfort and enjoy unrivalled views of the estuary and the Welsh hills, then come back to unwind with a drink and snack in our cosy reception. Take part in one of our exciting events to learn more or just for the interaction with the friendly RSPB team.

We’ve been a few times now and absolutely love it, it’s not the largest site but what they’ve done with it is superb. The staff are friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. A thumbs up from us 👍 Read full review
