About

Journey along the Silk road with the help of the Macclesfield Silk Museum - start in China exploring the origins of Silk, moving along the Silk Road to Macclesfield and it's fascinating history as a silk town!

The Museum is housed within the Old School of Art- and gives a visitor an insight into the design education of silk workers. Explore properties of dying, printing on silk, throwing and weaving. Discover Macclesfield's other textile industries, examine social history and walk through our working machinery gallery. See jacquard looms, handlooms, picture looms, knitting machines, sewing machines and many more!

With many hands on activities for children (and adults!) to learn and discover more about the Macclesfield Silk Industry. The Museum hosts childrens craft clubs and art workshops throughout school holidays and has an exciting programme of changing exhibitions in the Gallery.
