The Weaver Navigation as it is officially known, is one of the UK's hidden gem's and your cruise through some of Cheshire's most stunning countryside won't disappoint. First made navigable to small craft in the 1700's the Weaver grew on the back of the salt and chemical industry in Northwich and Winsford. It has seen many alterations and improvements over the years with ships of up to 1,000 tons still using the river to convey cargo as recently at the 1990's.
Departure time from National Waterways Museum at Ellesmere Port will be 1100 hrs, giving you an hour to visit the Museum before we set sail. We will steam for approximately one hour to reach the entrance to the Weaver at Marsh Lock, the location of which is dominated by the vast Castner Kellner chemical plant, a reminder of the local industrial heritage. Within a mile of leaving Marsh lock we pass through the recently refurbished Sutton Weaver Swing Bridge near to the historic market town of Frodsham, and on through some of the rivers most stunning scenery for nearly an hour, winding our way towards Dutton Locks. Shortly after leaving Dutton we arrive at our destination just before Acton Swing Bridge. This bridge dates from the 1930's and although of impressive size, the bridge swings with just the use of a few Horse Power due to its weight being borne by a floating pontoon, although on this occasion we do not pass under it.
