Our top picks of Cheshire’s ‘water themed’ Attractions for families this half term.
Cheshire’s weather so far this May has seen a mix of wet brolly showers and sunny spells. We don’t know what to pick when we open our wardrobes…a summer dress and sandals or a thick jumper and jeans? Light jacket, a warm coat? May messes with our outfit planning because the weather is so changeable. We usually end up choosing the wrong outfit, forgetting the brolly as we leave the house, and curse the weather reports on our way to work.
As we tut and blame the weather for fooling us into wearing our new strappy sandals, we forget that Britain is quite unique! In what other country can you witness a downpour and a big blue sky in one day? We celebrate the dry days and fear the raindrops. But why do us Brits hate H2O so much when water is wonderful, right?
We forget that it plays a big part in our lives, keeping us hydrated and entertained. Even in the summer sun we have ice cubes in our drinks to cool us down, cold showers after a gym session and canal trips on Cheshire’s waterways! This May – even when the sun is out – there are a few ways we can get a little closer to loving water! Cheshire’s Favourite Days Out attractions are hosting a number of ‘water themed’ events and workshops for all the family to enjoy. Here’s my top four wonderful ways to celebrate Water!
1. Catalyst Science Museum – Streamwatch Workshop Monday 25th – Friday 29th May, 11am - 2pm each day It’s the start of Amazed by Science this half term, with a number of events happening all over Cheshire. Take part in the big science experiment at the Catalyst Science Museum for hands-on workshops analysing water samples and checking the health of our local streams, rivers and ponds! Whilst you’re at the Science Centre, explore the three galleries and panoramic views across Cheshire from the rooftop!
2. Port Sunlight Village Museum - Float or Sink? Activities Tuesday 26th – Wednesday 27th May, 1pm – 3:30pm There will be fun craft activities taking place in the Old School Room at the Lyceum starting at 1pm from Tuesday 26th - Wednesday 27th May. Create a boat and see if it stays afloat! Take a peek at Port Sunlight Museum’s Soap and Water Exhibition whilst you’re visiting!
3. National Waterways Museum – Pirate Cruises Tuesday 26th – Thursday 28th May, 11am – 2pm Ships Ahoy! There’s no better place to enjoy Cheshire’s water playground than The National Waterways Museum. They will be hosting Pirate themed canal cruises twice day. Board the good ship Centaur to join Captain Pete and his scurvy crew for activities and prizes - including ‘best dressed’ pirate.
4. Blue Planet Aquarium – Live shows at the Aquatheatre 3 shows EVERY day from 11:30am Watch the divers in the spectacular Aquatheatre feed the colourful fish and sea creatures. Every day there will be different animal talks and feeds, including Otters, crafty Crocs, Electric Eels and hopping frogs!
As you enjoy a sizzling BBQ or a canal cruise, don’t forget to hold up a glass of something ice filled and salute water! Visit www.favouritedaysout.co.uk to find out more about other what’s on this month - but select your outfit carefully – you never know what the weather may bring.
