With only twelve days to go until Chester Christmas Market reopens for 2017, we thought you might enjoy our top 12 things to do in Chester this festive season (in keeping with the original carol of course) Enjoy…

On the first day of Christmas, Chester gave to me... a giant sparkling tree. (The iconic Christmas Tree is located in the heart of the city and is a must-see for anyone visiting Chester Christmas Market this year. Grab whoever you’re with and get the perfect selfie - a memory to treasure forever)

On the second day of Christmas, Chester gave to me... a date for my sweetheart and me. (Cuddle up with your loved one under the twinkling stars and enjoy a night to remember. Visit Godstall Lane “The Romantic Heart of Chester” for a couple of drinks in the dreamy setting of Duttons and The Botanist)

On the third day of Christmas, Chester gave to me... three French restaurants to go for my tea. (We have an extensive selection of fantastic restaurants in Chester to choose from. However, if you are in the mood for French food take your pick from the brilliant Chez Jules, Côte Brasserie or Brasserie ABode)

On the fourth day of Christmas, Chester gave to me... the Chester VIC. (Pop into the Visitor Information Centre for a fantastic range of Christmas gifts and decorations to remind you of your time in the city. The amazing staff are always on hand and happy to help with any of your queries)

On the fifth day of Christmas, Chester gave to me... some jewellery to make me feel pretty. (For sparkly treats, Chester Christmas Market has all you need and more. You should also get well acquainted with the second level galleries of the half-timbered Rows and head to Grosvenor Shopping Centre where you will find a vast selection of jewellers)

On the sixth day of Christmas, Chester gave to me... a hotel to rest my head when I feel sleepy. (When it comes to luxury, Chester does it best. Shelter from the bitter cold and snuggle up for a good night’s sleep in the warmth of the Crowne Plaza, Chester Grosvenor or Hallmark Hotel Chester The Queen)

On the seventh day of Christmas, Chester gave to me... The Secret Seven at Storyhouse to enjoy with my family. (From the 1st December till the 14th January, join the Secret Seven on a fantastic family adventure at Storyhouse, brought to you by Enid Blyton. Storyhouse is Chester’s brand new £37m theatre, library, cinema and arts centre - well worth a visit before you leave)

On the eighth day of Christmas, Chester gave to me... hot chocolate and mulled wine to warm my belly. (Nothing sums up Christmas more than a milky hot chocolate or cheeky tipple in Chester Christmas Market’s Real Ale Bar. Alternatively, venture into town for a warming mulled wine at the Bear & Billet pub on Lower Bridge Street or head to Leonidas for a delicious hot chocolate)

On the ninth day of Christmas, Chester gave to me... a night out on the town dancing and getting merry. (When the stalls start to close, don’t despair, your night doesn’t have to end there… For your fill of cocktail bars, Watergate Street is the place to be, an atmospheric hive buzzing with nightlife. We recommend Liquor and Co, Kuckoo and BarLounge)

On the tenth day of Christmas, Chester gave to me... The Lanterns at Chester Zoo shining brightly. (Watch the night come alive with enchanting lantern replicates of your favourite animals at Chester Zoo. Make sure you visit from the 24th November – 30th December for a magical night to remember)

On the eleventh day of Christmas, Chester gave to me... Cathedral organs sounding loudly. (You will feel fully immersed in the city’s festivities when you hear the sound of the grand organ at Chester Cathedral. Wander the Cloisters where you will find more than 40 majestic Christmas trees, dressed to the nines by local schools and businesses)

On the twelfth day of Christmas, Chester gave to me... a drumming band playing by the River Dee. (Christmas in Chester is incomplete without a leisurely walk along the River Dee. Local musicians and bands often take residence at the bandstand giving everyone a performance to remember. Sit back, relax and enjoy the music)
