British Food Fortnight
British Food Fortnight (22nd September – 7th October), the annual celebration of the best of food and drink from around the British Isles starts this Saturday. The celebration, now in its 17th year, gives eateries all over the UK a chance to champion their local suppliers, home-grown produce and seasonal favourites. Here’s a look at how some of Cheshire’s favourite places to eat are promoting their Best of British offerings and celebrating British Food Fortnight.

Palm Court Restaurant, Bar & Piano Lounge
Chester Palm Court Restaurant, Bar & Piano Lounge is located within the stunning Grosvenor Pulford Hotel & Spa, just outside Chester town centre within beautiful countryside. Palm Court is the new restaurant for the hotel which offers the highest-quality dining experience in a sensational setting, accompanied by the sounds of a bubbling fountain and tinkling ivories.

With a strong focus on British cuisine, Palm Court offers a traditional Sunday Carvery, with all meat and poultry raised and sourced in Britain from Williams of Flint, Goosnargh and Stanley Jones, all within a 60-mile radius. All fresh produce is locally sourced from Wellocks in Lancashire, and the menu features a selection of British cheeses including from Coronation Street’s Sean Wilson Saddleworth Cheese.

The Palm Court is celebrating the best of British food with a special one-off set menu for the duration of British Food Fortnight. Showcasing an abundance of seasonal, locally grown produce, the £32pp menu includes leek and potato soup served with Welsh rarebit; sticky beef cheek served with onions, kale and potato wedges; followed by a decadent apple crumble served with clotted cream ice-cream and blackberry cremeux.

The Fishpool Inn – Delamere
The Fishpool Inn is an award-winning gastro inn set on the edge of leafy Delamere Forest. Home to Cheshire-produced micro-brewery beers Eastgate, Best Cask Bitter and Cheshire Cat, the Fishpool has a popular and vibrant bar. Home to an open fronted kitchen, it allows customers to enjoy the performance of the chef’s preparing the finest, locally sourced ingredients for the seasonally changing dishes. A popular dish at the Fishpool is the traditionally handcrafted British steak and ale pie, made with the best Cheshire beef. Other dishes on the moreish menu demonstrate the wealth of amazing British cuisine, such as the Welsh Valley lamb, the Atlantic cod and the Riding’s Reserve steak.

In honour of British Food Fortnight and recognition of the fact that Gin was recently named Britain’s favourite spirit, they will be introducing an exciting trio of Gin Twists highlighting Liverpool’s flavoured Whitley Neill Gin. Customers will be able to choose from; a Rhubarb and Ginger Mule, a Raspberry Garden and Blood Orange Paluma.

The Pheasant Inn – Tattenhall
The AA-Rosette winning The Pheasant Inn started life over 350 years ago as a farmhouse and barn before it became an alehouse in the 1600’s. Now popular with locals, tourists and day-trippers taking advantages of the fantastic walking routes in the area, the restaurant menu is home to a wide variety of locally found cuisines. With seafood sourced from Welfish of Fleetwood in Lancashire, ham from Cumbria and ice-cream from Cheshire ice-cream farm, the team at The Pheasant make efforts to keep their food miles as low as possible. ​

To commemorate one of their favourite fortnights in the culinary calendar, Head Chef has developed a 3-course menu to demonstrate the quality and scope of the best ingredients their local suppliers have to offer. From £18.95pp, the menu includes steamed Menai mussels in Appleshed cider; herb-crusted venison loin with kale, squash and Collier’s Welsh cheddar gratin; and caramelised Bramley apple mousse. ​

The Bear’s Paw – Warmingham
This luxury country hotel and restaurant dates back to the 19th century, when it was a Victorian Inn and at the heart of the village community. Taking pride in their wholesome, home-cooked food which has been recognised with an AA dining award, the menus are crafted around the freshest and most seasonal produce available from local farms and trawlers. No cheese travels further than 30 miles with Burland Green and Kinnerton Ash being key favourites. The year-round cask-conditioned beers feature from Cheshire brewery Weetwood Ales. ​

Returning once again for British Food Fortnight is the exceedingly indulgent and popular Patriotic Pudding Plank. Featuring the finest puds created by Brits, the £14.95 sharing platter includes: banoffee pie, bread & butter pudding, sherry trifle, Bakewell tart, and strawberries & cream ice cream.

All dishes created in celebration of British Food Fortnight are available from 22nd September for a limited period.
