Festive spirit

It’s starting to feel a lot like Christmas at Cheshire Oaks these days.

The giant, walk-through Christmas tree twinkles amid the dusk of an autumnal afternoon at the Cheshire venue, the first designer outlet village in Europe when it opened in March 1995. Today it’s home to 150 high street and luxury brands with the phase-four development adding a further 25 new stores and restaurants this winter.

The Christmas corner features mulled wine and German sausages, while beach huts shelter shoppers clutching coffees and shopping bags. Characters from The Nutcracker stand to attention around the village and the shops feature festive black-and gold bows.

“We’re not just a shopping centre,” says Center Manager, Kenny Murray. “This is a place for families to come together and share a day out with free events and Christmas attractions.”

The outlet village draws customers from across the North but also, increasingly, coach groups of international visitors. Hence sales assistants at luxury-brand shops are now trained in language skills and cultural awareness.

Plans for next year include a new family play area and more luxury brands, such as the recent opening of a Kate Spade store.

“Nothing beats the tangible aspect when you’re out shopping,” says Kenny. “Personally, I always want to see the items on my Xmas shopping list and try things on myself and ask my family's opinion”

Christmas Cheer

“It makes me feel childlike. It makes me smile inside,” says the Events Manager whose company provides personnel for the Christmas Concierge service at Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlet.

There will be a team of six people working over Black Friday weekend from November 23-25. Dressed in distinctive, red-bellboy outfits, the team will be on their toes during the extended shopping hours — 9am to 10pm on the Friday itself.

They will be directing shoppers to must-visit stores, helping with shopping bags as well as spreading the Christmas spirit with random acts of kindness — from dancing with pensioners in the walkways to engaging feet-dragging children with a smile and chocolate.

Santa Claus is coming to town

Breakfast with Santa launches throughout December, held at 9am every Saturday and Sunday. Hosted at Café Rouge, families can meet the main man himself and his cheeky elf, over delicious pancakes and hot chocolate! Make your Christmas magical and let your little one share their Christmas wishes with Santa. Bookings available online, limited places available.
