Valentine's Day in Cheshire

A romantic break at luxury lodgings where more than 50 marriage proposals have been made is just one of the ways to celebrate Valentine’s Day in Cheshire (www.visitcheshire.com).

Cheshire Boutique Barns (07922 277292, www.cheshireboutiquebarns.co.uk), near Wrenbury, has provided the setting for more than 50 marriage proposals and more guests will surely go down on one knee if they book its one- or two-night ‘Valentines Champagne Special Offer’.

Guests will receive a complimentary ‘Champagne VIP Arrival Package’, usually costing £60, as part of the deal, arriving to find their self-catering accommodation lit by lamps and candles with a fire burning in the hearth and a bottle of Champagne on ice. Each of the four luxurious barn conversions is individually styled, with indoor or outdoor real fires, and mezzanine bedrooms featuring White Company bedding and toiletries. Stays including 14 February cost £245 to £345 for one night or £338 to £448 for two nights, depending on choice of barn.

Other bookable treats include ‘Fireside Stargazer Package (£75), where couples can gaze at the stars while being serenaded by the resident owls. Two outdoor loungers are dressed in vintage wool blankets and eiderdowns, stowed with hot water bottles, and set by an outdoor firepit, with candles and lanterns all around and a bottle of Champagne on ice, plus marshmallows for toasting.

The barns (pictured centre) are in the grounds of a country mansion, just down the road from scenic walks along the towpath of the Shropshire Union Canal, and close to the cosy Cholmondeley Arms, a gastro-pub set in a converted Victorian school, with a gin bar stocked with more than 300 varieties.
