Once again its almost February Half Term. Are you looking for family friendly things to do while the kids are out of school? Here's a list of the top 12 kid friendly half term events in Cheshire. In an effort towards a more sustainable Cheshire, we've included public transit directions to each location!

1. Three o’clock Storytime is back!

Monday 17 February - Friday 21 February

Free (no booking required) In The Kitchen at Storyhouse *Adults must stay with their child Following its success at the Literature Festival, every afternoon join the library team for a fun story under the big screen. It’s a chance for the whole family to pull up a beanbag, get comfy and listen to a wide variety of stories.

Public Transport: Storyhouse is only a 5-minute walk from the Bus Interchange

2. Chester Zoo aims to DELIGHT and EXCITE with an AMAZING programme of events!

Location: Basecamp, Madagascar Witness FUN and informative interactive show that reveals all the facts about Chester Zoo poo at Basecamp!

‘Stories from around the world’

1:15 Monday to Sunday – Basecamp, Madagascar
Exciting immersive and interactive animal stories in Café Bembe and Basecamp.

‘Quiz – are you a TOP zoo ranger? ‘
12:15 Tuesday, Thursday & Saturday
Location: Basecamp, Madagascar This quiz will pit you against one of the Zoo rangers in a head to head challenge for the title of TOP Zoo Ranger.

Public Transport: Chester Zoo is easily accessible by walking, biking or taking No 1 or X1 bus to the front entrance. Discounts are available for train/zoo combo tickets and for bike riders.

3. Superhero & Princess themed crafts 

8 February - 1 March 2020
Monday – Sunday 10:30-16:00
Blakemere Village's popular Superhero & Princess trail is back this year with new twists! Running alongside the trail, Blakemere will be running Superhero & Princess themed crafts for you and your child to enjoy daily in the Creative Studio, found in The Courtyard Shops.

Public Transport: Bus 82 to Caravan Park walk 0.5 mile. Train Northern line to Cuddington walk 1.3 miles.

4. Scarecrow Festival 

11 February - 23 February 2020
Monday – Sunday 10:00- 15:00
The theme for this year's Tatton Park Scarecrow Festival is Sporting Heroes, to celebrate 2020 Olympics. Over 30 scarecrows are located throughout The Gardens for you to find. Strike a pose with sporting hero scarecrows, photo bomb scarecrows in iconic sporting moments and play alongside scarecrow sports stars. Then, venture down to The Farm to continue the trail. See if you can find sporting heroes and their animals in the paddocks, stables and farmyard.

Public Transport: Closest bus stop Clamhunger Lane (0.7 mile). Tatton Park is accessible by National Cycle Network and has cycle paths around the location

5. Science Show at Jodrell Bank

Jodrell Bank became a World Heritage site in July 2019. In this show find out about some of the important moments in the site's history which make it such an important place.

Public Transport: By rail: From Goostrey. Turn right down Station Road to the church in Goostrey village. Turn right at church and follow country roads, do not turn off this road, even though you appear to be heading away from the telescope. The road goes over the railway bridge and the entrance is on the right hand side. Part of the National Cycling Network

6. Bugs and Beasties Workshop

15 February - 23 February 2020
Monday – Sunday 11:00 - 17:00
This February half term go in search of the bugs and beasties that make themselves at home in the house. Pick up your trail sheet to discover the lurking critters indoors at Lyme, and see what it takes to protect the treasures and furniture around the house.

7. Abominable Snowman!

17 February - 18 February 2020

Norton Priory, Runcorn
A strange furry creature has been spotted in the grounds of Norton Priory Museum! Is it a yeti? An abominable snowman? Big Foot? Help track the friendly beast on these family-friendly storywalks and find out! The fun doesn’t stop there, decorate your own edible abominable snowman (gingerbread man) - One per child. And enjoy fun paper crafts in the classrooms.

8. Visit the wonderful world of ice cream!

‘Grandolph’s School of Wizardry’ - Send your little wizard off to Grandolph's School of Wizardry this half term where they'll learn to use a magic wand and cast spells in the science-based magic show. There will be fizzes, bubbles and smoke as they progress from Novice to Master Wizard and receive their very own graduation certificate!  Join in from the 14th-18th of February at various times throughout the day. ‘I’m A Celeb-Betty, Get Me Out Of Here’ -  Betty & friends are on an adventure like no other. Tasked with trials in the hope to be crowned king or queen of The Ice Cream Farm, who will be your winner?! 9. Slime sessions at The White Hourse 

Monday, February 19 - Friday, February 23.
11am until 2pm
The sessions will run in the pub’s conservatory The White Horse at Chester Racecourse will be running slime sessions throughout half term. Kids will be able to get stuck in with different colours, glitter and more During these slim sessions The White Horse will also be offering complimentary refills on coffee and tea for parents and lunch will be available from midday.

10. Animal Fiesta 

17th February

Location: Ellesmere Port Golf Club
If you are looking for a fun family event this half term, Events Beyond Compare are hosting an Animal Themed party for children aged 4-11. There will be a range of different activities to suit all ages including children’s buffet, unlimited drinks for children, bouncy castle, biscuit decorating and more! There will also be optional extras such as face painting and a raffle.

Public transport: Bus X1 or 1 to Burleydam Garden Centre stop, walk 0.2 mile.

11. Get hands on with history. Crafts at the castle

Beeston Castle and Woodland Park
Get set for a truly fantastic half term with hands-on kids activities and crafts at Beeston Castle. Take inspiration from the historic surroundings and make your own Bronze-age roundhouse, cave painting and stone necklace. Plus, there will be plenty of fun to keep the kids entertained at Beeston’s 40-acre woodland park.

12. Wild Around the World

1st March
11am-11pm & 2pm-4pm
Hoole Community Center, Chester
Explore animals from different continents around the world! Perfect for children between the ages of 2-10 years old. Find the animals, decorate biscuits, painted hand animals and more! This educational children’s event includes a Makaton workshop and animal themed lunch for children.
