"The Covid-19 pandemic has hit the wedding industry hard. As a wedding venue this is something that we have unfortunately experienced first-hand. With many weddings being scaled-down to meet tier guidelines or re-arranged due to national lockdowns it is fair to say that the past 10 months have been a challenge.

It has also been a stressful and heart-breaking time for all of the couples who have had to re-arrange the special day that they have spent so long planning. We cannot wait to finally turn these dreams into reality and provide all of our brides and grooms with the magical day that they deserve.

One couple who have really made the most of the situation are Shona and Thomas. They decided that they still wanted to tie the knot on their original wedding date in an intimate ceremony with just their closest family members but have also re-booked a future date for their larger wedding celebration.

Shona said “Our heart was set on 22nd December 2020 and when Alcumlow offered for us to get legally married on our original date and postpone the “wedding” to the same date a year later, it felt like the best scenario for us. We wanted the full experience – the meal, the guests, the dancing, but we were happy to wait for these. There were times during our intimate ceremony when we felt like we forgot what was going on in the world around us. It was magical, from start to finish.

I think the thing we’re looking forward to the most about our wedding (“Part Two”) is getting to share it with everybody else – including bridesmaids and best men, which we chose not to have for our ceremony last year. Alcumlow is the most beautiful venue and we can’t wait for everyone to experience the day with us.”

Here at Alcumlow Wedding Barn we certainly share the same excitement for the future.

Although our venue has been a lot quieter than normal lately, we have been extremely busy behind the scenes. The whole venue has been repainted and freshened up and the grounds have been perfectly manicured. We have also built a brand-new outdoor bar in the style of a Volkswagen campervan which ties in nicely with those couples who chose to arrive in VW campervans or beetles.

For both us and our couples, the pandemic has been tough, but we know that our post-pandemic weddings will be all the more special for it. Having all family and friends present for such a momentous day will not be taken for granted. Neither will the hugs, kisses and endless dancing which will undoubtably fill each and every wedding day.

Although the barn currently stands silent and empty we know that when our post-pandemic weddings kick in the atmosphere is going to be absolutely incredible – maybe even more so than we can possibly imagine.
