Treacle Market

If you’re looking for some inspiration for what’s happening in Chester & Cheshire this week, look no further as we have put together a selection of our top picks for this week. From amazing mazes and unmissable markets to family festivals and live sport, as always there’s a lot going on so why not enjoy these brilliant things to do this week.

Shop independent and unique at the Treacle Market

Macclesfield’s Treacle market, held on the last Sunday of each month, is a beloved Macc tradition. This outdoor market, set on the town’s Market Place plus adjoining streets, is full of independent traders dealing in all kinds of wares from arts and crafts and homewares to artisanal food, clothes and much, much more. It’s a superb way to spend this Sunday afternoon (28th) with the promise of live music and a licensed bar to boot.

Get lost in a magical Maize Maze

From 20 August until 4 September, visitors to Chester’s beautiful Bolesworth Estate can get lost in the amazing maize maze and pick their own sunflowers – a perfect summer day out. The kids can pick sunflowers, pose for a photo in the wildflowers, and weave their way through the bee trail. There are crafts to make, ice creams to eat, food to enjoy and plenty of things to do. Plus, Aladdin and the Genie will be taking centre stage to make things extra magical.

Take the kids to their own Glasto

The ‘Glastonbury for kids’ – Geronimo Family Festival returns to Arley Hall, Northwich this week. This three-day family extravaganza is full of entertainment for the little ones and there is A LOT on! There’s children’s entertainers, music, monster trucks, motocross, dinosaurs, rock climbing and so many more activities. It’s great value, too, with tickets starting from just £10 per day.

Look for the Bear Necessities at Capesthorne Hall

Macclesfield’s Capesthorne Hall have opened the doors to their majestic hall and gardens for an extra two weeks this summer and to add to the fun, there’s a new Jungle Book trail for the kids to enjoy. The trail will take children on a journey with the beloved storybook characters to explore the gardens in a fun and engaging way. Simply pick uo your trail sheet, follow the trail and complete your sheet to win a prize!

See Wolves v Tigers!

Warrington, aka Cheshire’s home of rugby league, is going to be abuzz this Thursday as Warrington Wolves welcome Castleford Tigers in the Betfred Super League at the Halliwell Jones Stadium. Castleford look strong in 5th place in the table, but the Wolves will, as usual, put it all on the line as well as have the home advantage. Kickoff is at 8pm and it promises to be a thriller of a match. It’s also not long now until the Rugby League World Cup comes to Warrington in October and November with four men’s fixtures including a quarter final as well as the first ever Physical Disability Rugby League world cup showcase, so why not get ready for some international rugby league on your doorstep?

Hopefully you’re inspired to get out and explore Chester & Cheshire this week. And keep an eye out as we round up what’s going on this August Bank Holiday Weekend.
