Fun Dog Show at Tatton Park

If you’re looking for some inspiration for what’s happening in Chester & Cheshire this week, look no further as we have put together a selection of our top picks for this week. From new exhibitions to living history and music festivals and celebrations, as always there’s a lot going on so why not enjoy these brilliant things to do this week.

1. Experience world-class culture at Warrington Museum & Art Gallery

Recently recognised by Arts Council England for its excellent standards in preserving heritage and inspiring future generations, Warrington Museum & Art Gallery is certainly one to visit this week. As well as an exhibition by Artists Shaun Smyth and Lee Harrison documenting the decommissioning of Fiddler’s Ferry power station, which closed in 2020 there’s a new thought-provoking exhibition which reflects on the relationship between people, power and the spectacle of punishment called A Buffet of Mortification by Anna FC Smith.

Warrington Museum & Art Gallery is free to enter and is open Wednesday – Friday 10:00 - 16:30, Saturday 10:00 - 16:00, and Sunday 11:00 - 15:00.

2. Treat the pooch to a pawfect day at Tatton’s Fun Dog Show

Join the Farm team for a fun filled day for you and your dog. There will be 10 novelty classes to enter, including Cutest Puppy, Waggiest Tail and Golden Oldie, plus a fun agility course (try it if you’re fit enough!). There will be a trophy for all class winners plus an end of day Show Champion to be won and rosettes awarded up to 6th place. It’s £2 per category to enter with categories including Fabulous Fellow, Loveliest Lady, Golden Oldie-9 years +, Cutest Puppy-up to 12 months old, Scruffiest Dog, Waggiest tail, Best biscuit/treat catcher, Dog the judge would most like to take home, Best Rescue, and Child Handler (handlers under 12 years old).

3. Experience living history at Canal Town at the National Waterways Museum

Experience what it was like to live and work in the docks with sights and sounds of the late 19th century when Ellesmere Port was a canal town. Stroll across the stunning seven-acre site through a landscape of Victorian buildings, docks, locks, stables and cottages ... and meet some interesting characters on the way. Watch the museum burst into life every Sunday with pop-up themed events, live music and traditional games that will keep the whole family entertained! Each week has a theme and this Sunday (14 August) it’s 1920s Afternoon Tea time!

4. Dance, eat and play at Deva Fest

After unfortunately having to cancel during the pandemic, Deva Fest returns to Chester Lakes from August 12-14. It’s a great family friendly option and across the three days guests can expect an extravaganza of music, parades, shows and fabulous food and drink from local suppliers. Headliners this year include Symphonic Ibiza, club legend Sonique, Sophie Ellis Bextor, Heather Small, Scouting for Girls, and Dodgy. With themes like Pirate Day, Old School Dance anthems and Festival Sunday, it promises to be one to remember.

5. Celebrate Pride in Chester

It’s an extra special 10-year celebration for this year’s Pride in Chester. Alongside the two-day free music extravaganza with a whole host of big names playing at Castle Square and the lower car park, there’s a parade as well as a lot of goings-on across Chester’s bars, restaurants, shops and more. Make sure to book your drinks tokens at https://www.chesterpride.co.uk/ and follow Chester Pride on social for all the updates.
