Christmas can be an expensive time of year, and as we feel the pinch, we want to be able to enjoy Christmas to the fullest and get the most value for our money. Luckily many Christmas events and activities don’t have to break the bank and across Cheshire there’s a host of affordable and completely free ways for you to enjoy the festive season. We’ve put together some suggestions for how to enjoy Christmas in Cheshire while saving, too:

Christmas in Warrington

Christmas in Warrington is all set to launch in a carnival of festive fun over the weekend of Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 November. There’s something for everyone on both days including Christmas artisan markets throughout the main central streets, choir performances, fairground rides, light projections, the return of the At No.25 Christmas installation and even a team of Brazilian drummers who will lead the Lantern Parade. Everyone is invited and most activities are free including a lantern making workshop followed by the Lantern Parade.

Each afternoon through December another window will be revealed. Most are viewable from 4 – 8pm.

Family Christmas Crafts at The Silk Museum

There’s a range of family-friendly Christmas activities at Macclesfield’s Silk Museum. There’s pre-school Christmas crafts for the littlest ones at just £3 per child, as well as a family Christmas ornament workshop. The whole family can make Victorian style Christmas decorations including a door ornament, a music manuscript tree decoration, and a mini twig tree. Adults are complementary and don't need a ticket and children’s tickets are just £7.

Wander the Christmas Markets

A sure-fire way to get into the Christmas spirit, a visit to the Christmas markets doesn’t have to break the bank. You can wander the festooned streets, peruse the stalls, and simply soak up the atmosphere.

Knutsford’s Christmas Market on 3 and 4 December is a two-day festive celebration where you’ll find an array of local artisan traders selling the finest food, drink, art, accessories and special gifts for your loved ones. You can enjoy a visit to Santa’s Grotto on Silk Mill Street all weekend, there’s a festive parade at 5pm on Saturday, and the Mayor of Knutsford will light up the town for the festive season at 6pm on Saturday in Canute Place. You can also enjoy hot food and drink stalls all weekend, as well as live entertainment by local performers. The market runs from 12-7pm Saturday and 11am-4pm Sunday. Why not make use of public transport to travel in, or if driving you can use the FREE Park and Ride which travels from Booths Hall (WA16 8GS) to Knutsford Bus Station so you can park and ride for free all weekend.

Sandbach’s Christmas Market, which returns 2 December, is one of the best in Cheshire with an extensive variety of goods on offer and a truly Christmassy atmosphere in the town. Visitors can expect choirs singing carols around the Christmas Tree, Brass Bands playing, Christmas lights twinkling, chestnuts roasting and the aroma of mulled wine. More than 100 stalls cover the Market Square, spread up the High Street, fill the Market Hall and expand over Little Common. With Town Centre shops offering late night shopping and The Olive and Stitch Market hosting further stalls within Town Hall there is a wealth of goods on offer.
