Grade: Mountain Biking
Distance: 23km/14 miles
Time: 4 hours
Start: Tegg’s Nose Country Park
Map: OS Explorer Map 268
Terrain: Minor roads and challenging off road sections
A challenging route over wild terrain. The weather can change quickly so be prepared for cold and wet conditions. Carry drink and a snack with you since the route is physically grueling.
Highlights include the bridleway ride to Danebower Hollow from the Cat and Fiddle pub, the beautiful descent through the Cumberland Brook valley and leisurely ride along Wildboarclough.
Note that the concessionary bridleway through Macclesfield Forest can be busy with walkers at weekends.
The ride follows many old trackways which have been in use for hundreds of years. The sunken bridleway below Tegg’s Nose is a beautiful example of an ancient track which once carried packhorses laden with salt into the hills.
