The riverside area of Nantwich is home to the saline spring that feeds the outdoor swimming pool and on which the town’s prosperity has been largely founded.

Exploring further afield:

Try the Nantwich Riverside Loop, a circular 5 km / 3 mile way-marked walk which leads you from the Riverside Park, across the fields to the Shropshire Union Canal and back to the town centre along the historic Welsh Row.

Alternatively, explore further into the countryside on the 8.5 km / 5 mile Walk Around Nantwich and Acton, or plan ahead and walk the Trackways stage of the Crewe and Nantwich Circular Walk.

Accessibility:

Nantwich Riverside offers combinations of accessible routes alongside the river and around the lake. For more details, see the Walks for All – Nantwich Riverside on this website.

Surface: The paths are mainly surfaced with occasional loose material, with some stretches of compacted stone that may become muddy. Widths are between 1 and 2 metres. There is a wide bridge over a weir on the River Weaver with approach ramps of gradient 1:8 over 5 metres.

Furniture: There are no gates or stiles on the paths on the Nantwich Riverside. Benches are provided at intervals, most frequently around the lake. Where the path goes under the railway bridge, there is a wide chicane creating a width of 120 cm. To the south of the railway is a bridge with gaps of 1 cm between the decking boards.

How to get there:

Parking: Free car parking is available at the lake and in St Anne’s car park off Welsh Row. A further car park is located off Shrewbridge Road (the access path from this car park has a chicane limiting the width of the path to 120 cm). All car parks have uneven gravel surfaces. Minibuses can access each of the car parks.

Toilets: There are no toilet facilities on the Nantwich Riverside, but facilities exist in the town centre.

Refreshments: There are no refreshments on the Riverside; facilities exist in the town centre. Picnic benches are located around the lake and in summer months an ice cream van parks at the lake car park.
