Step back in time and visit one of the country’s best preserved water powered corn mills.

- One of our millers will take you on a fascinating tour to see the ancient wooden machinery in action, listen to stories, and have a go at milling grain.

- The first written record of Stretton Watermill was 1351 and some of the original building remains, hidden under the layers of timber-framing of 1770.

- Stretton Watermill was a working mill until its last miller retired in 1959.

- The timbers give up their secrets to those who take the time to wonder at the machinery, the engineering and the ingenuity of the millers.

- Visit the 19th-century stable block to learn about the history of the mill and explore models of the building and its machinery.

- Bring a picnic and enjoy the idyllic rural setting with beautiful views of the pond and mill buildings.

- There are occasional special exhibitions and events.  See website for more information.

Wheelchair access is available throughout the museum though there are narrow doorways.  Please see website for Access Statement.

Hot and cold drinks available in small shop.

Stretton Watermill is a 25 minute drive South West from Chester City Centre.  It is on the Cheshire Cycle Route.  Combine this trip with pub lunch and a visit to one of the other heritage attractions in the area.
