About Us

As part of Chester Heritage Festival, come and meet the people who came before us. Hear the voices of citizens who are seldom heard: the thralls, the wives, the servants, the slaves, the innkeepers and the shop girls. These are people new to the city, the migrants of their age, and yet they settle into the fabric of the place and become part of the city's past - and our heritage. Their stories unfold in and around The Kitchen at Storyhouse as the actors move around the space. Pull up a chair and be entertained. These ten-minute monologues, a different one each day spanning two thousand years, feature professional actors and students from the University of Chester, are written by Clare Dudman and directed by Zoe Smith.

- Tuesday 25 June – A Message to the King 1646

- Wednesday 26 June – The Hiding Place 920AD

- Thursday 27 June – Marcus Nepos’s Final Round 200AD

- Friday 28 June – The Rising of the Skeleton Army 1881

- Saturday 29 June – The Tragedy of Watergate Street 1772
