About Us

28th March-1st November 2020

Join us to celebrate the centenary of Maurice, 4th Lord Egerton’s inheritance of the Tatton Estates. This photographic exhibition shows a collection of images illustrating his travels and passions from around the world.

Maurice was a keen photographer and never went anywhere without his camera, capturing fascinating moments as he went. From some of the earliest aerial images taken from hot air balloons to his involvement in pioneering flight with the Wright Brothers, to ‘Tunny’ fishing off Scarborough, or watching the first Grand Prix motor racing, exploring the Yukon, to safari expeditions and portraits of African tribes. He led an extraordinary life, was eye witness to pivotal events in African history and managed to capture it from behind the lens.

Capturing his world and travels from 1895-1955

This special exhibition shares the best of his photography from travels with his first camera in 1895, to the photos he took in India on his last safari trip in 1955.

Behind the Lens Exhibition runs from Saturday 28 March - Sunday 1 November. Opening times and days vary, please refer to the details below for the date you wish to visit.
