About Us

This entertaining tour, led by Chris Clayton and part of Chester Heritage Festival, is full of stories of local history and racing, past, present and future. Walk around Chester Racecourse and reflect on a river; a Roman Port; a medieval city with riverside meadow; the mayor of Chester in 1539, Henry Gee; the influences of the Civil War and the Industrial Revolution; and today’s racecourse, founded 480 years ago, reputed to be the oldest in the world. Meet outside the Holiday Inn Express, New Crane Street for this 90-minute tour, which includes steps.
