About Us

On Friday 12 October at 7.30pm, the award-winning Lion Salt Works Museum in Northwich, Cheshire will show ‘Common Lore’ by Stute Theatre. This is a new show developed for young adults (aged over 11) featuring rap, spoken word, live projections and live electronic music. A modern ‘take’ on fairy tales from all over the world, this unique and relevant show see traditional stories and modern life collide. The show is part of the Cheshire Rural Touring Arts Autumn season and tickets to this performance cost £9 for adults and £6.50 for under 17-year olds. Family tickets are available*. The show is about the challenging world young people inhabit and is told by one young woman, Scarlett, and her mobile phone. Scarlett reinvents the childhood stories told to her by her nan and makes sense of an increasingly challenging world that shapes her future path in a unique way. This exciting fast-paced show entertains with its reinvention of traditional theatre, technology and the spoken word.

Councillor Louise Gittins, Cabinet Member Communities and Wellbeing, Cheshire West & Chester Council said: “This imaginative and highly entertaining show is designed to appeal to young people with its interesting reinvention of ideas and the way it incorporates rap, music and live projections. It promises to be a fun, high-energy and thought-provoking evening.”

The Lion Salt Works Museum in Northwich, Cheshire was re-opened in 2015 after a four-year, £10 million restoration and tells the story of salt through fun, interactive displays including a ‘sound and light’ show, a ‘subsiding house’ and an automaton. Throughout the year, it has talks, performances, displays and events such as half-term Halloween activities, exhibitions, folk performances, a Christmas Fair and school trips. Parking is free and there is access to a café, shop, play area and butterfly garden.
