Cheshire's most iconic black and white house. A staggering example of 16th century craftsmanship built over 500 years ago, the Hall continues to exude an inimitable quirky charm and homely intimacy.
While modern life rushes by on the busy road outside, Little Moreton Hall, encircled by a moat, survives as a Tudor fantasy, transporting visitors in seconds back to another time. Built to impress by craftsmen’s hands more than 500 years ago, the hall continues to exude an inimitable quirky charm and homely intimacy. With its crooked walls and uneven floors, it seems at once fragile and resilient. This remarkable survivor inspires reflection on the ups and downs of a simpler way of life. Join in with one of our free guided tours and discover the story of Little Moreton Hall from the first foundations (or lack of) to the present day. Find out about life in the 1600s and discover the root of some common words, including, ‘chairman’ and ‘board-game’. Explore the manicured knot garden where you’ll also find herbs and vegetables that the Tudors would have used for their cooking and medicines.
This year, our theme is 'Get your body Tudor ready!' Come and find out about food and drink in the Tudor era, and discover Tudor attitudes to health and exercise
40-minute guided tours are free to all visitors, including groups. Tours operate daily and do not need to be booked. No booking required
