Explore this historic landscape including the Mere, once part of Burton Manor estate, home of Henry Neville Gladstone, son of William Gladstone, Prime Minister. Visit the remains of the Iron Age hillfort on Burton Point and discover the estuary’s past and the spread of the marshes, following the canalisation of the Dee in 1737.

Mere and wetlands fully accessible. Route to Burton Point unsuitable  for those with limited mobility.

By road: off Puddington Lane, Burton, accessed via the A540 and 10 minutes from the M56

Public Transport Directions

By public transport: the nearest train stations are Neston (3.4 miles) and Hooton (4.3miles). Neston is on the Wrexham-Bidston line (Borderlands Line). Hooton is served by Merseyrail’s Wirral Line. The nearest bus service stops at Ness Botanic Gardens (1.4 miles away). On foot or bicycle, the Burton Marsh Greenway offers a safe, scenic route to the village from Chester and Wales.
