About Us

The inside of St Alban's church is a hidden delight! Designed by AWN Pugin, opened in 1841, it is full of Gothic Revival features of great beauty. Come and discover the history of the parish and its people, with a stunning information & photo trail.

One of Macclesfield's hidden gems, St Alban's was designed by Augustus Welby Pugin and is the only church designed by him in the Shrewsbury Diocese. Discover its many lovely features including Pugin's screen, above which are set 15th century German figures restored by Pugin to their original colours. St Alban's celebrated its 200th year of foundation in 2011. A wonderful display was created telling & illustrating the history of the parish, its people, and the church building. The story begins with a small chapel and its development through to Pugin's church and the present day. The displays will be out, alongside a stunning display of photographs of highlights of the building and its fittings.

This year we have just completed renovation work in the upper levels of the church tower (which is an unusual feature in itself), and will have a display of information about this work and the tower.
