EASY WATERWAY & COUNTRYIDE WALK: - On a Wednesday for a change; details of the next circular walk are below. It will feature the Carr Dam lake, which used to supply the water for the Sankey Canal.
WHEN: - The next walk will be Wednesday 13th November. If you're interested, please make a note the date and time and come along, more are always welcome to join our party whether you are new to footpaths walking, or experienced.
Remember, all our walks are open to IWA members and non-members alike, so bring along your friends and relatives. Halfway through each walk we stop for welcome 'bring your own' refreshments.
WHERE: - First find Merseyside, then St Helens, then the large lake at the north edge of the town called Carr Dam. The walk starts from The Waterside Toby carvery alongside the lake next to the A580. Grid ref: SJ 524 976. There is a Pay & Display car park outside the carvery - enter your registration number into any of the counter terminals you can park free of charge. Alternatively the long, dead-end, Garswood Old Road runs alongside the carvery and lake; and has unrestricted parking.
POST CODE: - If you are using a SatNav, enter the post code WA11 7LX.
Or the co-ordinates: 53.47332, 002.71900
TIME: - Please arrive at 10.15am for a 10.30 start. Hopefully the carvery facilities will be available. Find the damson Toyota and introduce yourself to Derek. The walk will proceed at a slow pace and newcomers are very welcome - the more the merrier.
FINISH: - It will finish with a drink at the carvery, and/or an optional lunch. A table has been reserved in advance. Names will be taken and the reservation updated at the start of the walk.
NOTES: - This walk should again be fairly easy as all the footpaths are excellent. It will be fine for all the family and the dog as there are no stiles. If you have any comment, questions, need a lift, or have any requests, please send a message. There will be a short break half way round for 'bring your own' refreshments. Wear stout shoes or trainers, but boots will be best and you will also need to bring waterproofs if there may be showers. Walks will be at a slow pace and along a fairly flat route.
