About Us

Clues… mysteries… detective work! Pointers to revealing the past are above, below and all around in Chester. But what are the questions? Knowing the right kind to ask is a useful skill. Meet landscape detective, Julie Smalley, at the Visitor Information Centre to time-travel Town Hall Square to glimpse Chester’s multi-layered cityscape.

Finder’s Guide factsheets will help. Historic maps will be on hand… intriguing! We’ll be using eyes and imaginations too. Whether younger or older, this is a practical introduction for any walkabout you’ll ever do: a half-hour of family-friendly fun in landscape history detection. Just bring your curiosity.

Book in advance to join Julie Smalley of Chester Society for Landscape History on one of these two free sessions, organised by Chester Civic Trust to celebrate Civic Day.
