Help us celebrate Macclesfields historic links with China and the Silk Road as we welcome in Lunar New Year and the Year of the Dragon.
Start the day in Market Place at 11:30am to make some noise, scaring away evil spirits and welcoming in a peaceful New Year. The Samba Drums from students of All Hallows Catholic College will be on hand to help, plus they’ll be providing the drum roll as we welcome in the Lunar New Year Dragon who’ll dance and weave their way around Market Place before leading the Zodiac Animals Parade down Mill Street towards Park Green. The Zodiac Animals will proceed into the United Reform Church where there will be crafts from ArtSpace and a selection of delicious traditional Chinese New Year foods to sample. The Dragon meanwhile will be heading off to the Silk Museum where you can sample Tai Chi in the Machine Room, visit the panda and try Green Tea in the Cafe.
