About Us

This is the first of the Chester Heritage Festival events that lead-up to the centenary of the signing of the Treaty of Versailles on 28 June. As Mike Royden tells us in his book, in the First World War many young men called up to fight in the conflict lost their lives, leaving communities bereft. On the Home Front, food shortages and the demands of wartime work in manufacturing and other vital wartime industries changed life for all. As part of the Festival each day this week, there is a short, 15-minute, introduction to different Chester and Cheshire books at the Visitor Information Centre. These opportunities to meet the authors are informal and the audience will not be seated. Historian, Mike Royden is author of several popular local books and returns on 29 June to introduce his book, `A-Z of Chester`.
