Nikki Parmenter is a Cheshire-based artist who specialises in mixed media, textile based pieces. She takes inspiration from a variety of sources and is particularly interested in how ancient societies created visual symbols to represent the things which were important to them. She investigates myths and legends and draws parallels between societies showing that although many people have different beliefs, we are all united by visual iconography.
Much of this particular body of work is inspired directly by the Williamson's collection of Della Robbia Pottery, using colours and decorative motifs reworked in textiles. But these are in no way copies of the pottery: that was a starting point.
The Williamson is open Wednesday-Sunday 10am-5pm.
