About Us

Take advantage of this special opening during Chester Heritage Festival to see this  collection of curiosities from the world of medicine, nursing, midwifery and social work. See also the exhibition, Returning Home, curated to commemorate the 100-year anniversary of World War 1, which provides an insight into what a soldier invalided back from the Front would have found on his return to Cheshire. Using local examples wherever possible, the exhibition covers aspects such as medical advances, the psychological effects of war, volunteering and volunteer nurses, a doctor’s country practice, home life, food and recipes, working women and social welfare.  This exhibition has been created by the Faculty of Health and Social Care Historical Society volunteers and refurbished with the generous help of the Heritage Lottery Fund and Big Heritage.

The University of Chester Riverside Museum, normally only opened on the first Wednesday of each month, is at the Riverside Campus, in Castle Drive, opposite the Dee.  Reception is accessed via steps, but with advanced notice alternative arrangements can be made.
