About Us

The Museum contains a permanent collection of curiosities from the world of medicine, nursing, midwifery and social work and the First World War: Returning Home exhibition, which provides an insight into what a soldier invalided and back from the Front would have found on his return to Cheshire. Using local examples wherever possible, the exhibition covers aspects such as medical advances, the psychological effects of war, volunteering and volunteer nurses, a doctor’s country practice, home life, food and recipes, rural life and social welfare.

There is also a new display on the influenza epidemic of 1918–1919 and its effects on Cheshire. The University of Chester Riverside Museum, normally only opened on the first Wednesday of each month, is at the Riverside Campus, in Castle Drive, opposite the Dee. Reception is accessed via steps, but with advanced notice alternative arrangements can be made.
