Chester Racecourse celebrates its annual partnership with the City of Chester, as the community celebrate their city's ancient Roman roots.
Roman Day has become one of our best-known, community events of the year. Alongside a spectacular day of racing, we also turn our Open Course into a Roman-themed hotspot for families and groups. Filled with free activities for attendees to take part in, this is a race day which appeals to everyone, of all ages.
Did you know we are the world’s oldest racecourse still in operation? History is a big part of who we are. The current racecourse site used to be entirely underwater. Where the racecourse is now, was once an important harbour during the Roman occupation and provided a vital space for ships to enter and depart with goods and soldiers. You can even still see some of the old anchor points in the iconic city walls which run around the racecourse.
The activities available on the day in the Open Course will be confirmed closer to the time. Please keep an eye on our social media channels, and this page as we announce confirmed plans for Tote Roman Day 2023.
This year we’re rewarding customers that book early with the best ticket prices. This means the quicker you book, the better price you’ll get!
For group bookings, please call the box office on 01244 304610 or email enquiries@chester-races.com.
Please note that all tickets will be subject to a £1.25 per ticket administration fee.
