Oyez! Oyez! If you come to Lymm you may just be lucky enough to hear our town crier proclaiming the latest news at the foot of the historic Grade One listed Lymm Cross. And Lymm certainly has plenty to shout about. Not many towns or villages can boast a history that includes a dinosaur’s footprint that’s 240 million years old. You can even meet the reimagined dinosaur “in the flesh” at Lymm’s Heritage Centre and pick up a map or trail while you’re there; but more of that later. Don’t forget to have your photograph taken in the stocks by the Cross before you move on.

Lymm – it means places of running water – is a historic gem with a modern twist that has plenty to occupy and entertain visitors on a day trip. From the village centre take a walk up the dingle as visitors have done for hundreds of years before exploring the picturesque scenery around Lymm Dam on a beautiful circular walk. Back in the village the watery theme continues with the opportunity to take a stroll along the towpath of the Bridgewater Canal. There are always interesting boats moored up that add to the village’s unique atmosphere. Or take the steep track down into Slitten Gorge and follow the streamside path to the site of Lymm’s 18th century slitting mill.

If all that exercise has given you an appetite and a thirst then you are spoilt for choice. You could try a pint from Lymm’s own micro-brewery but there is actually a huge choice of pubs, bars, coffee houses and restaurants catering for all tastes.

Suitably refreshed it’s time to take a look round the village centre. There are plenty of independent shops to browse around and be sure not to miss Lymm Heritage Centre in the heart of the village just off Bridgewater Street. It’s a friendly place with plenty of fun and activities for the whole family and some amazing stories to tell.

Lymm is famous too for its many events throughout the year, including Duck Race, the Historic Transport Day, Lymm Festival, May Queen, Beer Festival and Dickensian Day.

We’re close to the motorways – but not too close – and there’s plenty of parking in the centre of the village. Do come and see us soon.

As we said there’s a lot to shout about Lymm!
