Dedicated to St Elphin it is the oldest building in Warrington and has a continuous history - fulfilling the purpose for which it was built in 650 AD.

The spire of St Elphin's Parish Church dominates the Warrington skyline. It reaches 281 feet into the sky and, across the whole borough, it is only topped by one structure: the chimneys of Fiddlers' Ferry Power Station.

It is also one of the tallest spires in England. Amongst parish churches it ranks third after Louth in Lincolnshire and St Mary Redcliffe in Bristol. And even if you include cathedrals it only drops to sixth place. Salisbury is the tallest spire of all at over 400 feet, followed by Norwich Cathedral.
