If you’re looking for things to do in Ellesmere Port, the town’s sport and leisure offering is hugely impressive and has seen some fantastic additions in recent years. From the state-of-the-art community facilities to the fabulous areas of green space where you can run, walk or cycle, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

The £15 million Ellesmere Port Sports Village complex, on Stanney Lane, has facilities that would be the envy of any town and is billed as “the perfect place to get active”. It has an 80-station gym with a mix of the latest equipment including the Synrgy 360XL fitness frame which is also used for dedicated gym classes. There’s also a varied fitness class timetable with over 95 weekly classes, two swimming pools, including a warm baby and child-friendly pool, a large sports hall, 3G football pitch and an athletics track.

The Ellesmere Port Sports Village is home to a number of local clubs, including the British Basketball League (BBL) team Cheshire Phoenix basketball team and wheelchair basket club, who play at the Cheshire Oaks Arena as well as Ellesmere Port and Chester Table Tennis Centre, Ellesmere Port Amateur Swimming Club, West Cheshire Athletics Club and Chester Netball Club.
There are martial arts clubs based in Stanney Oaks Annex, which is also available for hire for various indoors sports including badminton and netball, and football clubs play on the 3G pitches.

If you enjoy running in the great outdoors, you can also be swept up in the Park Run phenomenon, which takes place at Whitby Park every Saturday at 9am. It’s one of many great weekly events in Ellesmere Port. The 5km run is free to join and great fun for those who enjoy running with a big group of like-minded people. In addition, The Ellesmere Port Running Club meets twice a week at the Whitby Sport & Social Club and hosts regular beginners’ nights for those who want to give club running a try.

There are several other superb green spaces in Ellesmere Port where you can run, walk or cycle, including Rivacre Country Park and Stanney Woods, as well as great golf courses where you can enjoy a leisurely round.
