The mid Cheshire Line- Salt, scenery and exciting cities

The Mid Cheshire Line will take you from the ancient border city of Chester through Delamere Forest and on to the salt country of Northwich.

It then rolls across the flat Cheshire plane of rich pastures and big skies with a pit stop at smart and quirky Knutsford where they go mad for May Day. Onwards it glides towards Altrincham with its` Artisan market and ice rink. before reaching the hat making city of Stockport. Then it’s the last leg to Manchester, a city of world class football and music, it needs no introduction. So jump aboard, grab the window seat and enjoy the Mid Cheshire Line!

Route Waypoints
  1. Chester Railway Station - The city of Chester began life as a Roman garrison town and is the only place in the UK to have a full circuit of city walls, parts of which date back nearly 2 millennia.
  2. Mouldworth Railway Station - This quiet country station is surrounded by scenic rolling countryside. To enjoy some platform pampering there’s Whistles Hair and Beauty Salon situated in the old station house.
  3. Delamere Railway Station - Delamere Forest is the largest continuous area of woodland in Cheshire and it`s not for nothing that its name means Forest of the Lakes.
  4. Cuddington Railway Station - In this spread-out village which has has merged with neighbouring Sandiway, you`ll find a good selection of shops.
  5. Greenbank Railway Station - Greenbank is on the outskirts of Northwich and is the town’s only fully accessible station.
  6. Northwich Railway Station - Not all that long ago Northwich was home to a booming salt mining and chemical industry which has left behind a rich industrial heritage-the word wich, in old English, means a place where salt was produced.
  7. Lostock Gralam Railway Station - This residential suburb of Northwich has a school, church, boat yard, take away and pub called The Slow and Easy just a short walk from the station.
  8. Plumley Railway Station - A pretty village with two pubs, The Smoker and The Golden Pheasant with the latter being a regular stop off for the Mid Cheshire Music Trains which run through the summer and autumn.
  9. Knutsford Railway Station - You`ll find everything you might need in this smart and independently spirited market town.
  10. Mobberly Railway Station - If you`ve an avid plane spotter in the family visiting Mobberley is a great way low-cost way to entertain them.
  11. Ashley Railway Station - The hamlet of Ashley might only have a couple of hundred residents, but it still has one pub The GreyHound which, true to its name, has a dog friendly room.
  12. Hale Railway Station - The Victorian Grade 11 listed Hale Station with its Victorian platform canopy make it amongst the prettiest along the line.
  13. Altrincham Railway Station - This thriving South Manchester town has a fantastic selection of high street and independent retailers and a very popular artisan market and food hall.
  14. Navigation Road Railway Station - This station is the best stop off to catch a show at the Garick Playhouse.
  15. Stockport Railway Station - An impressive railway viaduct with its 27 arches sets the landscape for this historic town just South of Manchester.
  16. Manchester Piccadilly Railway Station - In the vibrant Northern city of Manchester being bored is not an option.
