Margaret Holbrook grew up in Cheshire and still lives in the area. She is a member of the Society of Authors. Margaret will give two talks each Saturday afternoon about some of the extraordinary women featured in her poetry collection "Not Exactly Life" and read the associated poems.
Margaret's poems and short stories have been published in several anthologies and magazines. Margaret also writes plays, and in October 2012, was a finalist at the Ovation Theatre Awards with her short play, Soup for Starters. In June 2014, Margaret's story 'Our Brian' was long-listed for BBC Radio 4's 'Opening Lines'. Margaret has read some of her work on the radio and has been a guest on several local radio stations. She is a member of the Society of Authors.
Her book readings in our HODS programme of events will focus on extraordinary women that have been her female role models over the years from different perspectives: life, fiction, film and history. Margaret's will talk about some of the women featured in her poetry collection "Not Exactly Life", and she will also read the associated poems, including Elizabeth Gaskell, Elizabeth I, Lucrezia Borgia, Emmeline Pankhurst, Edith Sitwell, St. Margaret and women we all perhaps will have known ...
