Tatton Park - The Old Hall
TripAdvisor Traveller Rating
2983 reviewsThe atmospheric Old Hall was the original old manor house in the park.
Once the heart of the estate, Tatton Park's medieval Old Hall survives as its oldest building, and a guided tour takes you on an evocative journey through its history as a dwelling place - from manor house to humble cottages.
Built at the turn of the 15th and 16th centuries, the single storey great hall, dimly lit by tallow candle and flickering fire still retains the shadowy atmosphere of its medieval beginnings to its height during the Tudor period.
The Old Hall is set in an enclosure in the parkland between the beautiful mere and the site of an Anglo Saxon village with its landscape history trail. An ideal base for walking and exploring many of the historic elements of the park and for viewing its wildlife.
As featured on TV's "Most Haunted," the Old Hall is the venue for historical re-enactments and is host to many of Tatton Park's events such as the busy travelling Medieval Fayre and summer outdoor theatre. It provides the perfect setting for our "Halloween Hauntings" in October.
Education days also benefit from this unique setting. The Old Hall welcomes children and there is always an element of 'hands on' history for them. Tatton's visitors often say that a tour of the Old Hall is both enjoyable and informative with recommendations for others to follow in their footsteps to explore Tatton's hidden gem.
