Sir Francis Ronalds – electric telegraph. Elizabeth Gaskell – author highlighting social issues of the day. Florence Nightingale – founder of modern nursing. Lewis Latimer – electric lighting and air conditioners. Oliver Heaviside – telecommunications, mathematics and science. Linus Pauling – quantum theory and important discoveries in genetic diseases. David Atherton – Canadian Maglev and work with magnets. Raymond Kurzweil – robotics and nanotechnology. Tim Berners-Lee – founder of world-wide-web.
