The Northern Chamber Orchestra is thrilled to announce a spectacular Christmas concert that promises to warm hearts and usher in the festive season with resplendent music. Set to take place on Saturday 16 December at 7:30pm at The King's School, Macclesfield, this concert is a musical journey through the most cherished Christmas themes and compositions.
The night's musical magic will be conducted by Ellie Slorach, who will lead the way through a classically festive programme, featuring Tracey Redfern and Peter Mainwaring, both principal trumpeters of the NCO, along with the guidance of violinist and director Ian Watson.
The enchanting programme includes a mix of timeless classics and contemporary choral masterpieces, with highlights including:
- Vivaldi’s Concerto for Two Trumpets: Experience the joyful fanfares as Tracey Redfern and Peter Mainwaring, NCO's own trumpet virtuosos, breathe life into this Vivaldi masterpiece.
- Dobrinka Tabakova’s Alma Redemptoris Mater: A contemporary choral gem by Bulgarian-British Tabakova, whose radiant melodies will surely stir the soul.
- Corelli’s Concerto Grosso Op. 6 No. 8 in G minor (Fatto per la notte di Natale): An iconic Christmas concerto that has captured the essence of the holiday season for generations.
- Lauridsen’s O Magnum Mysterium: Morten Lauridsen's deeply moving piece, based on a Gregorian chant for Christmas, will transport you to a place of reflection and reverence.
- Vivaldi’s Gloria: Vivaldi's Gloria, one of his most significant sacred works, will resound in its glory, invoking the spirit of the season.
The Kantos Chamber Choir, known for its regular recordings on BBC Radio and its collaborations with renowned orchestras such as the BBC Philharmonic and the RLPO, will add their harmonious voices to this unforgettable evening.
Conducted by Ellie Slorach, whose captivating direction has graced orchestras like the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and Manchester Camerata, and directed from the violin by the versatile Ian Watson, the Northern Chamber Orchestra promises to deliver an unforgettable night of musical excellence.
