People are being urged to use the medium of photography to celebrate Cheshire Day on 30 March and capture what they love about the region.

Cheshire’s annual celebration marks the anniversary of King Edward 1 granting its Charter of Liberties in 1300 I, in effect the county’s own Magna Carta or bill of rights. It offers an annual opportunity for attractions, businesses and residents to shout from the rooftops about why Cheshire is a great place to live, work and visit.

Cheshire’s story is rich and diverse. Built on salt, the county helped forge the industrial revolution and continues to be a economic centre of international importance, from life sciences to the space race. It also boasts the nation’s first named cheese, a mythical cat, fairytale castle and even Britain’s fastest supercomputer.

And today Marketing Cheshire, which is part of the Cheshire and Warrington LEP family and promotes the sub-region to tourists, business, investors, and residents, is throwing down the gauntlet for people to capture on camera what they love about Cheshire and showcase why it such a unique and special place.

One way to do this is via its official photograph competition giving those who enter the chance to snap up a terrific family prize – with the winner bagging a Cheshire weekend experience which includes a night's stay with breakfast at Moxy Chester, entry and play pass at the Ice Cream Farm, a meal at Artezzan Restaurant and Bar in Chester and a river cruise with Chester Boat.

Photos must be your own and must fit one of two categories: Something Uniquely Cheshire such as worm charming, rolling wheels of Cheshire Cheese or a national asset – or The Best View in Cheshire with entrants spoilt for choice such as a vista from Beeston, a cobbled street in Little Budworth or a forest scape from Macclesfield.

The deadline to enter is March 25 and full entry and prize details can be found here.

But even if you don’t enter the official competition, Marketing Cheshire is also giving people and businesses the chance to join in the celebrations on social media by sharing what makes Cheshire great – as well as sharing what they are doing to celebrate the day.

Taking part is simple, it can be done by posting details and a photo with the hashtag #cheshireday on social media before or on 30 March.

You can find out more at Cheshire Day - Official.
