The Gallery was founded by William Hesketh Lever (1851-1925) and is dedicated to the memory of his wife Elizabeth. Lever wanted to share his incredible collections with the public and personally selected works of art for the Gallery. The best of Lever’s personal art collection can still be seen in the Gallery today.
It has the best collection of Wedgwood jasperware anywhere in the world and its collection of Pre-Raphaelite paintings is internationally renowned, featuring works by Millais, Rossetti, Burne-Jones and Holman Hunt.
Don’t forget to check the website before your visit for information on temporary exhibitions and for details on the Gallery’s popular free events programme.
