Have you ever wondered how historic paper and parchment documents can be conserved and preserved so that they last for hundreds of years? Or how a mould damaged, tattered and torn piece of old paper (document?) can be repaired?
On August 7th, Cheshire Archives will be hosting a drop-in Record Office Repair Shop at Chester Markets from 11 til 4. Our conservators Rachel Manning and Angela Suegreen will show in a live demonstration how they repair our damaged paper documents. Archivist Caroline Picco will be on hand to explain what we store at Cheshire Archives and why we do this!
If you’re interested in finding out about the nuts-and-bolts of how an archive works and how we conserve historic documents to make sure they’re accessible for future generations, you can drop in to see us at Chester Markets in the unit next door to Len Brown’s Textiles. Feel free to drop by and see us at any time between 11 and 4. We’ll be happy to answer of your questions and demonstrate our techniques.
