Chester City

Take a romantic walk around the remains of the Roman Walls of Chester – the most complete city walls in England spanning over 2.2 miles throughout the heart of Chester. There a variety of fascinating sights throughout the walk, such as the Eastgate Clock, built in 1897 to commemorate the jubilee of Queen Victoria, the remains of a Roman amphitheatre and Chester’s internationally renowned Racecourse. Along the way stop at the Wishing Steps arranged in sets of three, it was built around 1785. It links the different levels of the south and east walls and romantically overlooks the River Dee. These steps are associated with a romantic legend stretching back a couple of hundred years, stating that if an unmarried girl successfully ran up and down the steps while holding her breath, the man of her choice would propose to her.
