Tatton Park’s Gardener’s Cottage Tea Room Reopens this summer

Is it jam or cream first? 

A question worth pondering over whilst enjoying the idyllic setting of the Gardener’s Cottage Tea Room which sees its eagerly anticipated re-opening on 21st July. This is the perfect place to enjoy the quintessentially English tradition of Afternoon Tea. 

Taste a NEW summer lunch menu in an English country garden. 

As well as a tempting Afternoon Tea menu, The Cottage chefs have created light lunch options which uses as much fresh produce available. Tuck into Sourdough open sandwiches, pasta bowls with a choice of toppings or a seasonal homemade Tatton Garden Tart, all garnished with walled kitchen garden salad and (weather permitting!) served to your table set in and amongst the blooming Orchards. 

A Roarsome children’s Afternoon Tea! 

For families visiting the Gardener’s Cottage this summer there is a special children’s Tiger themed Afternoon Tea as part of the celebration of the much-loved storybooks of Judith Kerr marking the centenary of this award-winning writer and illustrator’s birth. Families can follow the interactive Tiger Who Came to Tea trail through the Gardens before visiting the Gardener’s Cottage for their very own mini–Afternoon Tea. 

From the Garden to Your Plate… 

Tatton’s gardens have supplied produce for over two hundred years, originally to fulfil the needs of the Egerton family who once owned this extensive estate. In 2023 the fresh produce is still very much highly prized and used by the chef at the Gardener’s Cottage for such delights as Tatton Gooseberry and Elderflower scones and Tatton Garden Vegetarian Tart of the Day, on the Light Lunch menu this summer. The fruit and vegetables grown and tended by a dedicated group of volunteers, under the direction of the gardeners, can be on a plate in the Gardener’s Cottage within hours of being picked. 

A tearoom rooted in heritage  

The Cottage, nestled into a corner of the Walled Gardens, and easily accessible from the Stableyard, was once the home of the Head Gardener at Tatton Park in charge of the beautiful fifty acres of formal gardens, made up of many unique styles of garden including a serene 100-year-old Japanese garden and a Joseph Paxton designed Italian Garden.  

Sittings for Afternoon Teas are at 12.30 and 2.30pm on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays only. There is no need to book tables for light lunches, simply turn up on the day. Enquire online at tattonpark.org.uk or call 01625 374469
