Edgelarks

The dynamic, BBC Folk Award-winning duo, Edgelarks, will kick off this year’s exciting Salt Work Sessions folk events at Cheshire’s award-winning Lion Salt Works Museum on 19 March. Their captivating performances and innovative music mean they are acknowledged as one of the most adventurous pairings on the folk scene and this special night will be one of their last performances as a duo. Doors and the bar open at 7pm with music starting at 8pm.  Parking is free, tickets cost £15.00 and can be bought at danarts.org/events/edgelarks/ This event will be subject to any Covid restrictions that may be in place at the time.

Edgelarks’ captivating performers are Phillip Henry and Hannah Martin. Their music is an innovative take on British folk traditions, fusing influences as diverse as the Blues, Indian classical music and beatbox. Edgelarks have toured with some of the finest folk musicians from Seth Lakeman to ‘Show of Hands’. They have also been in demand as part of projects including The Gigspanner Big Band.

Described by The Guardian as ‘subtle, atmospheric and bravely original’ and by BBC6 Music as ‘extraordinary’, this duo have also recently added parenthood to their list of achievements. Their performance at the Lion Salt Works Museum will be one of their last performances together as a duo.

Councillor Louise Gittins, Leader of Cheshire West and Chester Council, said: “I’m delighted that the new year’s Salt Works Sessions at the Lion Salt Works begins with the rich and evocative music of this innovative duo. Edgelarks’ performance at the museum in 2017 sparked the idea of the Salt Works Sessions and so we are particularly delighted to have them back for his special performance. The Museum’s unique historic setting continues to be an on-going success as a folk venue, lending an intimacy and atmosphere to all performances. This gig sounds as though it will be an unforgettable night by musicians who are at the top of their game and a magical evening not to be missed.”

The Lion Salt Works Museum has won ten awards since opening in 2015 after a four-year £10m restoration, including winning the National Lottery’s top award for heritage projects in 2016. Cheshire’s Lion Salt Works Museum tells the story of salt in fun and interactive displays, including a sound and light show that evokes the steam rising from the giant salt pans. In addition to a children’s play area, shop, butterfly garden and café, there are also year-round activities. These range from Touring Rural Arts plays, children’s craft activities to events featuring historic steam events. On 4 June, the Museum will holding a Platinum Jubilee tea Garden Party with music through the decades as well as another ‘live’ music event.
