THE ROTARY CLUB OF NORTHWICH CHARITY SWIMATHON 2022
This year's event will be our 20th Swimathon and is at the Memorial Court Pool, Northwich on the 26th and 27th March between 5pm and 9pm.
Once again, our main sponsor will be locally based Ubuntu Wealth Management, whose support will ensure that all the money raised goes to charitable causes.
The event is for swimmers of all ages and abilities. Although it is not a race and teams are not expected to compete against each other we will again be inviting participants to introduce an element of challenge between teams for those who are interested. Local businesses, organisations and individuals are invited to put in teams of around six swimmers who ask friends, relations and work colleagues to sponsor them. This year we aim to have 48 teams taking part: that's nearly 300 individuals. However, you don't have to be part of a team to support the event, and we invite donations; just visit our website at northwichswimathon.org.uk and follow the links to the JustGiving page.
Each team has a 55-minute slot but only one member of each team swims at once, so there is no need for any one individual to swim for the whole 55 minutes. Team members usually take it in turns to swim a length each. All sponsorship is based on the team total of lengths, not that of any one individual. The pool is divided into six lanes, so six teams swim for each period of 55 minutes with a five-minute change over period for the next six teams to get in place.
Light refreshments are provided for all swimmers after their swim, and each is given a team photograph, a certificate showing the number of lengths swum by the team and a memento of the event showing that they've participated in our charity Swimathon.
The Rotary Club of Northwich has run the event for 19 years and, so far, has raised over £150,000 for local charities. Our named charities for 2022 are Deafness Support Network (Northwich) and Riding for the Disabled (Sandy Lane Group). However, once again, and in addition to the named charities, teams have the opportunity to nominate their own charity to receive half the sum raised by the team.
Teams are invited to express their interest in entering the event through the website address above. They will then be sent further information.
