The Puppet Van

On 7 August, the award-winning Lion Salt Works Museum in Northwich, Cheshire will show ‘The Lost Colour’, a vibrant, joyful play about colour that involves high octane action full of clowning, puppets, and paint. This enchanting show by the award-winning Half String Theatre will be performed from the top of a van with the audience watching from the lawn of the historic museum. Everyone is encouraged to bring a rug and if they want, a picnic. There is free parking on site, access to the Museum’s industrially-themed play area, butterfly garden and café. Suitable for the whole family and children over five years of age, the 45-minute performance (no interval) will take place at 2pm. Bookings can be made online at www.ticketsource.co.uk/cheshireruraltouringarts, by phone on 01606 275066 or in person at the Museum.

‘The Lost Colour’ is a delightful play about a painter’s race to find the ‘pink-est pink’ on the planet by exploring imaginative ways to create paint, including using a bit of alchemy as well as mashing up every conceivable vegetable. The show has its roots in the history of pigment making. Adult tickets cost £6.50 and 16 years and under, £4.50. Family tickets are also available; 2 adults and 2 children cost £17.60; one adult and three children £14.40. There is no requirement to visit the Lion Salt Works Museum in order to watch the play in its grounds, but if families want to visit the Museum, which tells the story of salt through fun, interactive displays and a sound and light show, normal ticket prices apply.*

Tickets can be bought in household groups and to help maintain social distancing, the audience is encouraged to bring their own rug to sit on. The performance will take place in the historic grounds of the Museum and to ensure visitors feel safe when attending the advice is to:

Carry out and have a negative Lateral Flow Test 24h prior to attending the event

That people should do a symptoms check prior to leaving home.

That people consider their own measures prior to attending which could include face masks inside and some social distancing in busy areas.

Visitors are also encouraged to download and log their Covid status on the NHS app

Councillor Louise Gittins, Leader of Cheshire West and Chester Council said: “This imaginative and joyful play is a lovely way of enjoying live performance in a safe and historic setting. Whatever age you are - this enchanting show will appeal to the imagination and be a highlight of the summer for families who want to create happy memories.”

The show is part of the Cheshire Rural Touring Arts - Autumn 2021 season. The Cheshire Rural Touring Arts (CRTA) is a network of villages across the Cheshire region with local volunteers who enjoy the challenge and excitement of choosing and staging high quality arts and entertainment events in their village halls and community centres as well as organising participatory arts events.
